Do you suffer from severe dry skin like I do? Or are you just a little dry around the edges? Either way, I have discovered the wonderful things that are oatmeal masks. For years, I have suffered from serious dry skin and embarrassing hives. This winter has been particularly bad on my face. Every time I get out of the shower, my face is stings like crazy. Even heavy moisturizers like Eucerin Cream aren’t working. It just makes my face hurt worse.
Then a friend shared with me her secret. She has the same problem except on a far worse level (she’s allergic to eggs, milk, grass, grains, etc.)–you name it, it causes her to break out in itchy, dry skin and hives. Well she told me the recipe for a face mask that she puts on every night, and I decided to try it out. To my shock, it actually helped quite a bit. And, it is far cheaper than the creams I was using.
While I still put on face creams after my shower, as well as utilize a few other tricks I’ll share later, I have officially added this to my nightly routine.
The ingredients are simple:
INGREDIENTS
- 1-3 spoonfuls of GROUND OATMEAL (of any kind, even the cheap no-name brand from the local grocery story will work). Oatmeal flour works perhaps a bit better, but it is also more expensive.
- 1-3 spoonfuls of WATER.
DIRECTIONS
- Take one to three spoonfuls of regular oatmeal (quick-oats works as well).
- Put it in a small sandwich plastic bag. The bag need to lock closed.
- Then grind up the oatmeal in the bag until it looks like a thick flour.
- Add in the water and mix it up.
- Smear it on your face and leave until the whole mask dries.
- Wipe of with a warm towel, and check out the results!!
The mask works best if the oatmeal is ground. I use a simple kitchen grinder that looks like this:
You can find these at most kitchen stores, and in some super-box stores (Target/Wal-mart).
