When an Axe means Good Things

4 Nov
Fascinating! We went shopping yesterday at Zhongdong Dashicheng and they have a huge area dedicated to wedding supplies. One of the many tokens they were all selling were these axes.
ย
I was guessing either A) they take ‘leave your parents and cleave unto your wife a bit too serious” or B)ย  these marriages are a LOT more bloody than I’m used to ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿ˜‚
ย
One of my students aid maybe after you get married you have to cut more wood than normal ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿ˜†
ย
What I learned. . . . The word axe (ๆ–ง ) is a homophone of ‘lucky’ (็ฆ) — both are variations of ‘fu’, and they are made of peach wood which is used to ward off evil spirits. So basically you cut out the evil and bring in the good fortune. So awesome!
