#KoreanBBQ

9 May

πŸ˜‚ Travel #Miscommunication – I asked a local importer if he could help me find #BBQ sauce, knowing that #HuntsBBQ is in a lot of places here.  He said ‘Sure!’  A couple days later, they told me my sauce was in and I came to find this – #KoreanBBQ sauce 😜 Also delicious! Just not what I was thinking.  One of the fun parts of travel – We have different views of food vocabulary πŸ˜„

Sweetie Pie, Honey #Bread

9 May

#Honeybread – A popular dessert here is Honey Bread – a really sweet bread with ice cream on top.  Slowly the ice cream melted down into the bread.  Very fun!

Lovely #Memories – Sad #Goodbyes

8 May

My students returned to school today for graduation photos.  They do not take classes their final semester, so most already have jobs, internships, etc.  Some are already leaving for grad school!  I’ve known them for 3 years – love them so much!

In our university, students don’t pick their classes.  Everyone in their class takes the same 10-11 classes together each semester.  Then they share a dorm.  So all 60 students in her class (Finance 1, 2013) have been together pretty much 24 hr a day for 4 years.  Making great memories, but sad goodbyes.

Life of an Foreign #Teacher ~ Computer Catastrophes

4 May
1:20 hour into class, for the 5th week in a row, all the computers crashed AGAIN. Completely deleting all the students hard work. Even saved documents were wiped off.
Β
Class Leader immediately: Don’t worry teacher, I know. I will go make them come.
Β
Me; why, yes Kevin darling. That might be an excellent idea. (**Insert Angry Face). And see if you can find the building manager. Or their boss. Or the boss of the boss.
Β
Class: oooohhhh. *Waits eagerly and vengefully to enjoy the fireworks about to commence*

Let Summer Commence!

30 Apr

Lemon 7-up is absolutely delicious! They call it ningmengqi or 柠ζͺ¬δΈƒ.

柠ζͺ¬ (lemon) + δΈƒ (7). It’s basically 7-up with squeezed lemon in it.  Delicious!

I usually order it ε€šε€šε†° (duo duo bing).  ε€šmeans more/extra.  In Chinese, saying something twice makes it stronger – so 倚倚 means ‘a lot extra’.  ε†° means ‘ice’.

So I get 柠ζͺ¬δΈƒε€šε€šε†° (ningmenqi duoduobing) or lemon 7-up with lots of ice. It’s possible I’m supposed to say the Ice first- my grammar isn’t that good. πŸ˜‚ But they understand me! It cost me 7οΏ₯ or about 1$.

If you visit #China. you should try it. Very Good and super refreshing!

#Travel: First Motorbike Ride!

Ice Cream #Coffee

22 Apr

Iced Coffee #China style!  Here in Henan, most restaurants don’t have ice.  The Chinese don’t really like iced drinks – believing the cold unboiled water will make them sick and is a bad combination with your inside organs. (Probably true of the water here.)

But Ice Cream is a different story.  Still bad for your health but not so likely to kill you.  So if you Order iced coffee or an iced soda You’ll get Ice cream coffee or a ice cream float πŸ˜„
