The World Through #Tech Eyes

14 Jul

The #Tech world – always communicating behind glass, usually with filters distorting the view.  Looking each other face – to – face might help us see one another more clearly.

Get a Chinese #Visa in #Seoul

Lived in China for 3 years, but there is still so much we haven’t seen!  So we were planning a tourism trip around some famous spots, but our Residence Permits expired in early July, leaving us no time.

We ended up booking a last minute trip to Seoul, South Korea (beautiful city and country! Definitely recommend a visit.) in order to leave before our visas ran out and needed to get new tourist visas to go do our travel plans. But I had a pain in the neck time figuring out if I could actually GET a Chinese visa in Seoul.

A couple websites told me that only certain embassies offered it.  Other sites said I had to have an ARC (Korean Alien Resident Card).  Since those cards are only give to foreign residents, that was kind of a blow for me.  (THIS IS ACTUALLY NOT TRUE — SEE BELOW).  I did learn from a few people that having a Chinese visa in the past could help.

I decided to run with it and here is the step-by-step process I used for getting a Chinese Tourist Visa (L Visa) in Seoul!

SPECIAL NOTES:

1) Many “copies” are needed in this process (passport copies, visa copies, etc).  Black & White were acceptable. My hotel didn’t have a printer, so I went to a local Kinkos in Seoul.  Just google “Kinkos in Seoul” to find the addresses. They are open 24 hours and weren’t a bad price. The copies were EXCELLENT quality paper–perfect for me.  Continue reading

#koreanfood done right!  Seoul Train Station has a restaurant on 4th floor called ‘Korean Restaurant’ (inventive huh?! 😂).  It is SO GOOD!  #motherdearest ordered the #galbi stew and I ordered #Bulgogi.  All the side dishes came with.  Garlic, Leaf wraps, Kimchi, Radish, Soy Soup, etc.  #Yummy

The City that Survives

1 Jul

America is my country, but #Seoul is my hometown.  There is something so soothing to me about this city, with the topsy-turvy combination of new & sleek contrasted with old & meandering.  The moment I see my river begin to rise in the bus windows, my soul relaxes and I know it’s all ok.  To stand, looking out over a city as old as time.  Knowing that for centuries, one nation after another (often repeatedly) tried to stamp out its #culture and #Heritage only for Seoul to stay standing.  It’s a Beautiful feeling – Here for 14 days!

#KoreanBBQ

9 May

😂 Travel #Miscommunication – I asked a local importer if he could help me find #BBQ sauce, knowing that #HuntsBBQ is in a lot of places here.  He said ‘Sure!’  A couple days later, they told me my sauce was in and I came to find this – #KoreanBBQ sauce 😜 Also delicious! Just not what I was thinking.  One of the fun parts of travel – We have different views of food vocabulary 😄

Writing Hangul -ㄹ

1 Dec

“R / L” (ㄹ)
3 STROKES

First – Start on the top left and make a long horizontal line. Then (WITHOUT PICKING UP YOUR PEN!) pull a short vertical line down.  Basically, you are forming the “Hangul G.” You see this a lot in Hangul, where on character is used to form another. g1

Second – Starting on the left, form a long horizontal line that connects to the first stroke.  You are kind of making a backwards, upside down  ㄷ. 🙂

Third. Starting on the top left of stroke two, go down forming a short vertical line. Then (WITHOUT PICKING UP YOUR PEN!) make a second long horizontal line.  Basically makes a Hangul “N”
