Fascinating picture of a bicycle now grown into a tree. What I find strange is the fact that the bike is so far off the ground. I guess as the tree grew, it took the bike up with it?
Beware Criminal-Minded Cats Everyone (And the idiots behind the evil plots)
5 JanBeware Criminal-Minded Cats Everyone (And the idiots behind the evil plots)
Bwahahahah!!! Did they think the guards wouldn’t notice the duct tape? I mean, I know that tape is good for everything, but it is not exactly invisible. Oh, the stupidity. It never ceases to amaze.
Secrets to Share
4 JanA friend shared this poem with me today, and I was pleasantly surprised by the way it resonated with my thoughts recently. Thus, I pass it on without further ado for further consideration!
Your Mission. . . Should You Choose to Accept It By Hugh Eckert (2004) Listen, I will tell you an awful secret, A terrible heresy, a forbidden Truth: This life is meant to be enjoyed. We are here to play in the Garden- To be ourselves, only more so To make happy and be happy, love and be loved. (Beloved, be Love!) Say this and be damned, Do this and be scorned, Dare this and win! Dance this life, grow drunken on it, Make laughter your ally In this alchemy. All the biggest lies of history deny this: life is not meant to be suffering; The addition of those words- Click as tumblers fall, the lock moves,
light shines around the edges Of the door to Joy.
No Signs says the Sign
3 Jan
LOL, my ironic pic of the day. There were actually two copies of this sign on the pole warning everyone about not posting signs.
Travel Abroad with a Language Scholarship!
3 JanTap, tap, tap. . .
That is the impatient tapping of my foot as I sit here checking my email every 15 minutes (literally–I’m just that sad) to hear back on a scholarship I applied for. They say we’ll hear by email in January, and last year the results came out the first Friday of the month. Ergo, my tap, tap, tapping. Wait, I need to check my email again. . .
Okay, I’m back! Since I am stuck here waiting until at least tomorrow, maybe another week, I thought I’d share the news about this awesome opportunity for students interested in studying abroad.
New Year’s Eve Resolutions
1 JanIt is that time of year again. The day when we set aside the old and embrace the new. For some reason, the changing of the date signifies to human hearts the sign of new beginnings, a renewed belief that what seemed impossible yesterday may be attainable tomorrow. Unfortunately, like so many others, I always find myself abandoning these resolutions all to quickly as the year goes by. In fact, this occurs so often, that I have discovered that I almost expect it to happen. Just a few days ago, a friend told me that she no longer makes New Year’s resolutions because she always feels guilty for abandoning them later. She sees it as setting herself up for failure.
Swinging Bridges and Small Town Romance
31 Dec*UPDATED*!!!
Having grown up in the mid-western state of Missouri, I always have a small spot in my heart reserved for the local, small town. My mother’s family comes from the Hannibal, MO area, home of prolific author Mark Twain and the Mark Twain Dinette‘s Frosty Mug Root Beer. As a lover of root beer, and having tried out about every kind I stumble across, I can proudly say that this Frosty Mug Root Beer is still a favorite. 🙂
However, I never actually visited the state of Iowa until I decided to join the University of Iowa’s student body. So recently, when my mother was visiting some local towns, I decided to tag along. As expected, I fell in love with the mid-west all over again.
Best Holiday Cheese Log!
29 DecAhh, sweet childhood memories. For most of my youth, my uncle owned and operated a cheese factory. They made American processed cheese of the best variety, including an amazing swiss and bacon cheese that made amazing grilled-cheese sandwiches. Naturally, I love all things cheese related–grilled cheese, cheesy potatoes, corn & cheese casserole; if it comes with cheese, my day is made. (This proved unfortunate in Asia, where cheese in not a daily staple food. I was quite traumatized to realize that cheese there cost a fortune. 😦 )
Anyway, I am getting off track (and now I want nachos…), but I thought I would share my favorite recipe for a holiday cheese log. I actually started making this several years ago, but I made it again today for a family dinner. It is just SO GOOD! It takes a little bit of work, but the end result is definitely worth it if you enjoy cheese balls. Great for Christmas and New Year’s Eve parties!
