Winter Ice Storm Hits Midwest

Photos of the Trees after the Ice Storm hit us here in Illinois. I hear at home we got 6 inches of snow!  Praying that all of you made it out okay and that your Christmas trips are safe and sound!

SD Memory Card Locked

12 Nov

I’ve run into this problem several times with photographers (particularly amateur with the little cameras), although I’m sure other people have had the same problem.  You plug in your SD Memory Card and it says something like “Memory Card Locked” or “Memory Card Unavailable.”  Don’t freak–your card isn’t necessarily unrecoverable!

If you look at the picture of the card above, note the notch on the left side. If you look carefully, you’ll see a part that’s a light grey.  You can see it more clearly in this picture.

What you may not know is that this is a little button–it slides up and down. And it is what locks up a memory card.  Basically it’s a key that protects your information from being hurt, so it locks the information down. You cannot access it, and you cannot change it.  Unfortunately, this is going to bring up error messages when you plug the card in. This is especially an issue for photographers who frequently pull the cards in and out of the camera. A lot of times, you’ll accidentally trigger this little button without realizing

All You Have To Do Is Re-Click The Button.

That’s it. Real Simple, no hassle, no computer-wizards necessary.  🙂

Labor Day Labors (of Fun) aka Adventure!

I long ago promised that I would relate my wonderful, awesome adventures cross-country this past labor day weekend.  Labor Day weekend, always one of the great highlights of any college student’s life, was particularly exciting to me this year since I also had Thursday and Friday off and I was off to visit family for a BBQ.  A five day weekend, BBQ Pork Steak, Baked Potato, Grilled Veggies, and Home-made Ice Cream and Fudge Sauce–the weekend was definitely offering great potential 🙂 My Aunt and her husband were hosting the BBQ at their cabin down in Illinois; having traveled the same road dozens of times in the past, the trip can get kind of boring at times.

Now you have to understand that I wasn’t going to be alone on this trip; my mom was also going to be riding down with me. My mom and I together are pretty awesome.  We love taking the roads less traveled and heading off Continue reading

A Day with the Panda

15 Aug

This summer I was blessed with the opportunity to see a real live Panda bear at the Tianjin Zoo!  This has long been a dream of mine (although don’t worry darling polar bears–I have enough room in my heart still for you) and I was glad to meet up with some friends who were as excited about panda searching as I was.  Luckily we made it just in time that day to see him eating some Bamboo (which was perfect. . . I mean it’s kind of like eating Belgium chocolates in Belgium or seeing an Arabian stallion in Arabia; seeing a bamboo-eating panda is kind of a prerequisite for visiting China) and then lazing about in the unbearable heat (see what I did there?) 😛  Cool huh?!?

True Friendship

True Friendship

Friendship is hard to depict and hard to define, but these two were a great example :) They were laughing and joking with one another, and I couldn’t help but capture it on film. They seemed like great kids.  To be so close to each other, content in each other’s company, and comfortable around each other is a truly amazing gift.

Purely Iowa

Purely Iowa

If you ever visit the state, you’ll find that it is uniquely different from Missouri, Illinois, or the other mid-western states.  Iowa embodies a sort of “rolling seas of grain” concept particularly in the pretty areas.  The hills stretch out as far as the eye can see, covered in farms and fields.  In the spring it all gets green and fresh; in fall, it’s golden and filled with corn and wheat stalks blocking your view (In the summer it all dies and gets kind of boringly brown 😛 ).  But in the winter. . . oh, it’s just gorgeous.  You can see forever and it all looks so open and warm.  Anyway, for a girl who has a particular fondness for Virginian mountains and North Carolina’s ocean vista, Iowa was surprisingly beautiful.

So, since I’ll be leaving Iowa before too long, I went out looking for some photos that embodied what has become the true Iowa to me.  And I actually got some really good ones 🙂  So here is my Iowa (with a couple fun ones just thrown in)!
