A.B.A. to Enforce Stricter Timeline for Law Graduates to Pass the Bar Exam

“A.B.A. to Enforce Stricter Timeline for Law Graduates to Pass the Bar Exam”

by Elizabeth Olson via “NY Times

American Bar Association’s accrediting body put law schools on notice Monday that it intended to tighten a rule that sets a deadline for graduates to pass state bar exams — a near-universal requirement for becoming a practicing lawyer.

The new measure would clarify the existing deadline that 75 percent of students pass within two years. Bar passage rates have been falling noticeably across the country.

At issue for the schools is their accreditation by the association. The theory behind the rule, which is one factor in accreditation, is that schools should be accepting students who are likely to have the qualifications to become practicing lawyers. Proponents of the change say that schools exploit students when they accept those who — based on admissions tests and other measurements — have a small chance of succeeding. . . .

Twitter has just asked me to update to the new format (I am potentially on the back-end of this change since I don’t go out there very often).  After playing with it for a while, I really like some of the new perks!

Some of the new changes include: Continue reading

Cool Google Chrome Change

23 Jan

Great news for Laurence the Laptop!

He might actually survive his stint as the lifeline for a professional writer/researcher/teacher. 😛

If you are anything like me, you threaten the poor darling’s life at least three times on any given day thanks to random unidentifiable voices streaming from the speakers.  I mean seriously, how can 4 ads be running just slighting off so that they scream over each other and I be unable to locate even one to shut the stupid thing off?  It drives me nuts!  I usually just throw a temper tantrum, shut down all the tab, lose all of my research, and let Laurence have it for being such a stupid nitwit.

Fortunately, Google Chrome has come through finally!  At long last they have added a way for you to tell which tabs have sounds playing.  Check out the new little volume symbol on your tab at the top of the browser.

If you see it, then that means that something is playing sounds on that tab.  The same is true regardless of whether it’s music, videos, random beeping noises, or advertisements–if it has some noise going on the symbol shows up.

All the other browsers should adopt this change; it’s a keeper.

New Tool on Facebook–The Smiley-Face!

So, I didn’t really notice this before, but apparently there is yet another new addition to the Facebook experience.   If you look at the box where you insert your status updates (i.e. “I’m totally ready for Spring!”–>My post today :P)  you will notice a new smiley-face button.

fb2

If you click that smiley-face, you will see the options pictured below.  There you can choose from a long list of things including “I’m reading such and such” or “I’m feeling wonderful” to your status.  I’ve seen this option on other journal software programs (DeviantArt, Livejournal), but it is new to FB!  What do you think?

Changes to the Pins on the New Pinterest

24 Mar

You can find Changes to the Pinterest Account Tools Here.

This post will run through a few of the new changes established to the Pins themselves.  I actually think this part is a lot more convenient than Pinterest’s old pin format.  The new ones allow you to go straight to the website, see other pins from that site, etc.

The Pin Itself

A picture of how the Pins now look

The pin itself doesn’t actually look all that different.  It still has the image, and if you click the image it will take you to the linked URL.  Nonetheless, there are a couple changes to note.

1. The greatest change to the pin itself is that you can no longer open it up and edit your own pins here.  The edit button no longer appears unless you are on the Boards or Pins main page on your account. Continue reading
