Shared Because: Just, No.

19 May

According to my friend, there were 5 of these left this morning.  Now there are 4.  Dear Heavens WHY? Why where there that many in the first place?  Why are people Buying Them? And who is preparing for that many Barbie funerals?!?

“Shu Uemura Pressed Eyeshadow in Blue Green 641”

$18 from Liberty.co.uk

I am both Blue-Eyed and blonde, so these aqua/blue colors always look good on me.  I always like a little bit of sparkle as well, so this is a great addition to my fashion loves.  I particularly like this mixture of blues and aquas – it should really pop light blue eyes.  Especially great if paired with an aqua shirt/dress!

L'exposition Charles James : Beyond Fashion du Met Costume Institute 2014

Anglo-American designer Charles James (1906-1978) is one the biggest names in mid 20th century American fashion, a designer who thought of fashion as a mathematical science. From Thursday May 8 to Sunday August 10, 2014, the Costume Institute at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art is opening to the doors to the “Charles James: Beyond Fashion” exhibition, which celebrates the work of the visionary designer. With just a few days until it officially opens, Vogue.fr brings you a look at some of the iconic images on display in this year’s MET exhibition, which draws huge crowds every year.

Fashion Dreams: Oscar de la Renta Embellished Gown

Almost everything about this gown speaks to me ~ the simple neckline and sleeves, the colors and patterns, the length.  I am not a huge fan of the colorless shoulder straps ~ perhaps a pink or light green outline as opposed to the “Black and White” fading into “Color” look?  Still, this would be amazing for a spring formal event.  Lovely and elegant, but vibrant and bright.

These Dreamy Photos Answer The Question: ‘What Would I Have Looked Like In Another Decade?’
by Sara Roncero-Menendez via “Huffington Post”

From the scrunchies and jean jackets that dominated the 1980s to the plaid shirts and heavy boots that defined 1990s grunge, everyone has their favorite teenage fashion trend. But what would we have worn if we were flower children of the 1970s or flappers of the 1920s? Ohio State University student Annalisa Hartlaub was able to paint a picture by depicting each decade’s quintessential mainstream and counterculture looks. Using herself as a model and tinting each picture to realistically reflect the technology of the decade, Hartlaub’s “Counter // Culture” photo project catalogs nearly 100 years of fashion history from 1920 through today.

The sixteen-year-old artist created the collection primarily for her photography class, but Hartlaub has always had a love of the alternative. “I’ve always been fascinated, and a bit infatuated, with counterculture and how it shapes society and mainstream culture as well. So I decided to mix that interest with my love of fashion, makeup, and photography to create something,” Hartlaub told The Huffington Post.

I’m Not Thankful For… Critics.

25 Nov

As a lead-in to the lovely Thanksgiving holidays, here’s something I’m not thankful for–critics (yes, I get the irony).  It seems like every year it gets more and more popular to criticize basically everything.  Sarcasm is now becoming the default language for “cool people.”

“I hate . . . ” “I know, right!”  If I hear that phrase one more time. . . Ugh!!

The world of fashion is naturally the shining example. Society was all about the Ugg boots (never really my fave–I prefer riding boots), right up until someone needed to say their piece. Suddenly, everyone else feels the need to jump on the bandwagon. Have you even thought about how rude that is?!?  If you hated it that much, you should have said something before most little girls had to have a pair.

Technology, yeah that’s another HUGE area. Either you’re the idiot with an electronic that’s “ancient” or you’re the idiot who rushed right out there to “buy up the latest item when you don’t really need it.” Classic rock and hard place.

What is making me really tired is that it now extends to Holidays.  I hated it clear back when everyone was ragging on Christmas. Admittedly, I probably spend way too much on a holiday that should focus on the celebration of my Lord. But I throw Him a heck of a party. You personally may have lost sight of the “Reason for the Season,”  but excuse me if I partially remember God’s gift to us by giving my Aunt that beautiful statue she loves so much.  Really, no one asked for you to rain on my parade.

Now it’s been extended to other holidays!   Continue reading
