Normandy Beach Memorial Sketched in Sand

13 Nov

We’ve all read the history books that quote the facts: Names, Dates, Medals won, Statistics; but it’s hard to really bring those facts to life in all their significance. There have been books, films, radio shows, and pictures that convey portions and glimpses into what the soldiers face, but still something is missing. We have seen the horror in the blood, and the screams, and the war–but we lose track of the Continue reading

No Way To Express How Much I Support This

13 Nov

I think this is one of the best ideas I’ve seen in a very, very long time. I mean, it works on so many levels! It promotes your event (Russian Olympics), it helps those people who might be suffering under the economic downturn (I wish I could get tickets for exercise), it promotes and encourages people to exercise more, and it gets people involved with one another.  Did you notice that the people doing this brought the other people in the subway around them to watch, support, and enjoy?

This is a great idea for a charity within the US too.  We all want people to exercise more, lots of people could use the money saved from free transportation tickets, and making an event out of it to get the people involved would be a wonderful benefit as well.  Go Russian Olympics!

Needless Waste

7 Nov

The Government is getting ready to destroy all this ivory in a message that they are taking the issue seriously.

Say What!?!  Why on earth would you needlessly destroy this ivory?  This isn’t honoring the animals that suffered to give this ivory. This isn’t a call about how much we regret their harm.  This is just creating a bigger market for ivory by making a shortage. They’ve just raised the price, so now there is a greater incentive to go get ivory.  They have raised the risk to the very animals we want to save!

Why not shape the horns into little animals and sell/give them away as a charity fund-raiser to save the animals?!?  Then you wouldn’t create a shortage, but your message would get out. But this? This is a total waste!!!!!!!  (Also how many pianos could have been saved through this ivory?–the Government’s a D*** to Pianos. And as a pianist, I find that seriously of the wrong!)

Happy Anniversary to me! Today marks the 1 year anniversary from the moment I started “DeceptivelyBlonde,” my very first blog ever. It started with the thoughts and pictures and heart-felt comments from yours truly, beginning with “Travelling in a 외국의 (foreign) Land” and launching out into many directions. I’ve talked about everything from Gluten-free cooking, to stressed out law school rants, to favorite poems, travel articles, history lessons and more.  I originally expected to focus on travelling, but I got swept away in the many enjoyments of life and the beauty of sharing them.  It started as one blog, and has now morphed into several blogs and websites, including:

and more. . .  The websites have seen thousands of views and many, many followers who have helped motivated this dream.

And today, I want to thank you, my readers, for going along with me on the ride.  You have faithfully stood by me all this time, supporting me with your Likes and Comments, which I appreciate way more than you know!  It has been a blessing in my life to feel connected with each of you, to read your blogs in turn and to see the world through your eyes.  So THANK YOU! You all rock!

Seoul International Book Fair

Seoul Book Fair

The 2013 Annual Seoul International Book Fair

Yes, all you English Majors in the world out there, be very, very jealous. For today, I was placed into a HUGE auditorium filled with books, and authors, and publishers, and it just keeps going! It was reader’s heaven!  So many books out there that I had never heard of (mostly because the vast majority were in foreign languages 😛 ).

First opening in 1995, the Seoul International Book Fair has been going strong ever since.  Every year the Korea Publishers Assn.  hosts the event, which this year is at the COEX Exhibition Hall from June 19- June 23.  You can by your ticket at the ticket booth next to the exhibition hall, and then enter into a book-lover’s (and child’s) wonderland.

Seoul Rose Garden Festival

I’m Back!

Yes, it’s me, the Procrastinating writer. Once again I fail to keep this up-to-date with my travels. But today, you are in luck! I come with fresh photos and news about my venture into the Seoul Rose Garden Festival today.

Seoul Rose Garden Festival!

What:

Rose Garden

To clear up some confusion (I admit to being one of those bewildered), there are two names here to take into account. The Rose Theme Garden is the name of the location/garden. It is open 365 days a year and can be viewed at any time. It boasts of 20,000+ Roses in nearly 300+ varieties, but there are many other kinds of flowers as well.  You can find dozens of little ponds, Continue reading
