The First Snow

19 Mar

🙂 Here is a short poem I wrote in honor of winter wrapping up.  While I always enjoy the first snow, I’m about ready for spring!

Snow

A picture of our first snow here in Iowa

As the first winter snow starts falling down,
It covers her hair with a crystal crown.
Sparkling white diamonds covering her clothes,
Bring pink to her cheeks, and rose to her nose.

The world seems to stop, as she passes it by,
The whistling wind croons to the sky.
The roads are all quiet, the businesses closed
The park, like a picture, is prettily posed.

Suddenly out come the children with joy,
Laughter and shouts come from each girl and boy.
As three find a sled, and four the best hill,
they slide and they slide, till each has his fill.

The houses are lit, their warmth shining bright,
To neighbors and family who visit this night.
She walks down the lane and watches it all,
Storing memories and smiles to later recall.

Her steps in the snow as she walks up the lane,
Leave the first mark on a pure snowy plain.
A home of her own is waiting ahead,
With family, and fire, and chocolate, and bed.

As the first winter snow starts falling down,
It covers her hair with a crystal crown.
Sparkling white diamonds covering her clothes,
Bring pink to her cheeks, and rose to her nose.

How to Find JYJ’s new Official Line (A step-by-step guide)

8 Mar

UPDATE: 2016, I created a new “How to Find JYJ’s Official Line” post to account for changes to the Line Software. You can find the new directions here.

UPDATE: 2014 JYJ has changed their profile image to this:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
JYJ
JYJ-Jaejoong, Yoochun, Junsu
Several other fans of the KPOP band JYJ have been asking me how I found their Official Line link, since most of the sites tell you it’s up but not how to locate it.  So I figured I would share the process.  Enjoy!
P.S. Line is a kind of messenger system, like Skype only it’s not based out of the U.S.  It’s kind of a weird cross between Twitter, Tumblr, and Skype really, you’ll find pictures, chat message, phone services, and you can join in on live chats as well.
P.P.S. You can find a version of this with pictures on the Super Junior Line Post.  It is the same process, just remember you’re looking for the JYJ pic, not the SJ pic 😛
GO HERE FOR DIRECTIONS ON DOWNLOADING LINE INITIALLY (WITH PICTURES 🙂
Once you download it onto your smartphone/I-Pod/I-Phone, the app will look like this:
HOW TO FIND JYJ’s OFFICIAL LINE
  4. Now, it is automatically set to your geographic nation.  You’re probably going to have to change this depending on which language you want the JYJ program to be in.  Their system doesn’t show up under the US Official Accounts.  So go to “+Select Another Country”
  5. For the Japanese Language version
    1. Choose “Japan.”
    2. Click “Done” in the top right.
    3. Skim through the list a ways and eventually you’ll find “JYJ(JP)”  It has their official picture as the profile pic.  Click their name.
    2. Click “Done” in the top right.
    3. Skim down to “JYJ”, it has their official picture as the profile pic.  Click their name.
    4. Click “Add”
  8. For the English Language version
    1. Choose “Philippines,”  “Taiwan,” “Singapore
    2. Click “Done” in the top right.
    3. Skim through until you see “JYJ(EN)”, it has their official picture as the profile pic. Click their name.
    4. Click “Add”
  9. For the Vietnamese Language version
    1. Choose “Vietnam”
  10. For all versions, next go to the “Friends” button on the bottom menu, and you’ll see JYJ is now your friend.  Click their name.
  11. Now click “Chat”, and tada!  You can see all the stuff they post.  It takes about a day for anything to upload past their welcome message.  They’ll show up as your friends on the computer version as well once it is installed, and the same process applies: go to friends, click their name, and click chat.
Hope this helps answer some questions!
Whew!  These past two weeks have been amazingly busy, sorry for not posting anything earlier!
I’ve recently been trying to get all of my law school classes in order, but I think I’m going to give up on that effort.  It’s impossible to figure out how to juggle all of the classes, clubs, volunteer hours, and Research Assistant work.  Right now, I have been manning a taco table for the Latino Law Students Association, while looking up various research for the Iowa Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts project, at the same time that I look into topics for a research paper in the Cultural Heritage class.  0_0
Anyway, I managed to stumble across an idea I think I’ll use for the Cultural Heritage class, and I’m interested to see if anyone has some input on it. Continue reading
How To Add Basic Amazon Associates Links to WordPress.com or Blogger.com
5 Jan
YES, I AM A NERD!!!
I spent all day playing around with Amazon Associates since I have recently been recommending books via my “Many Books, Little Time” link.  However, I quickly discovered that it is practically impossible to post the widgets for Amazon Associates via WordPress.com or Blogger.com. I’m assuming it is far easier on WordPress.org, but the free blogs make it inconvenient.  Then I discovered that most of the instructions offered online right now don’t seem to follow along with the newer layout of the modern WordPress.com and Blogger.com sites.
So, after great aggravation on my part and victory signs waved about after success, here is how I managed to add the links to my own pages.
Paper, Essay, and Speech Writing 101 (aka the Outline)
17 Dec
Sigh. . . , English Major’s are strange.  We talk about the weirdest things just for fun. For example, whether Galadriel from J.R.R. Tolkien was actually a representation of Queen Elizabeth or Queen Victoria (and yes, that argument took FOREVER!).
Still,  English professors are even stranger.  They actually enjoy!?! writing five billion papers on whether or not Shakespeare was a prophet of his time.   Have you heard your English professor say the dreaded I don’t ever give out a 100 on a paper, because no paper can possibly be perfect.  All writers need to be aware that they have room for  improvement!” Somehow, they seem to forget that we are not all English majors!  Some are engineers, mathematicians, scientists, and computer-code writers who are only taking the class because it is required for all majors in the university.  Furthermore, this requirement comes despite the fact that they will never again care that Edgar Poe’s middle name is spelled “Allan” not “Allen” (so, um, apparently half the class misspelled his middle name in our final exam.  Prof. was furious, but we found it hilarious 🙂 )
They tried to pull the whole “You’ll never get a perfect score” on me, but I was an official English major and I was prepared.  Imagine my glee the day one such professor had to watch me walk away with an actual 100. Yes! Victory! Success!  Take that evil English professors everywhere!  Actually, though, this little trick got me through all of my writing classes with almost straight As.  Surprisingly, the same trick applies to writing an answer to an essay exam, writing a speech, or writing a presentation.
Changing Colors
20 Nov
Today I learned something new and completely fascinating.  I use Microsoft Word for all of my academic writing, and I often write in outline form.  While writing outlines for my final exams, I learned a cool new trick for when I am writing in bulleted format!
