Art I Love ~ 07 Ghost

17 Jun

Anime produced by Studio DEEN, Original manga illustrated by Yuki Amemiya & Yukino Ichihara

Okay, this is technically an anime (07 Ghost), but I just generally love the artist’s work in the show.  Sometimes the animations can be poorly drawn, but this show is stunning.  The art kind of blows my mind.

Reckless Flying

16 Jun

Stupid hit and run flies. There I am sitting at a perfect stop at the red light, when out of nowhere this huge fly slams face first into my windshield. I totally had damages from the shock. But does he face up to his stupidity? Oh no, he just shakes it off, gets up, and RUNS AWAY! Can you believe it? The nerve.

Next Gen. Computer Design Suggestion

14 Jun

Random Suggestion for Dell, when they are building their next generation Inspiron (or whatever the new computer is):

I wish you would arrange the sound to work like the I-Pods.  The part where, when you plug your earphones in, the sound automatically readjusts to a normal sound level.  I’m tired of playing something for other people, and then getting my ears blasted off when I forget to turn it back down with earphones.

Just a wish!

I am probably the last blogger out there to hear about Wordless Wednesday, but having recently discovered it, I’m embracing it. Better late than never, right?

“Vases with Bird-and-Flower Painting” by Wang Bu (1898–1968) Artist

Wang Bu was a 20th Century Chinese artist that specialized in working with Ceramics.  He was officially trained in the blue and white art, working under an expert tutor for several years.  Wang Bu’s first significant work came when popular ceramic artist, Wu Aisheng, hired him to design porcelain items in the style so popular during the Ming and Qing periods.  He would continue working with porcelain and ceramics for the rest of his life, preferring to decorate them in the blue and white coloring his father and mentor had loved.

Wang Bu made two great contributions to the art field.  First, He created the innovative method of using Chinese brush drawing to add the blue and white colors onto his ceramics and porcelain works ~ a technique that many other artists would soon pick up.  Second, he invented a “coloring pigment” by using the Chinese…

Get Excited! New Fees from the legal Basic Skills Course!

12 Jun

(For those of you unfamiliar with the process, law students in Iowa have to take a “Basic Skills” course their first year that covers everything they were just tested on for the bar exam.)

Now, on with the show.

Just received an email that started off really exciting, with lots of exclamation points:

“This Year’s Annual Meeting and Basic Skills Course are going paperless!” (Bold red font straight from the email).

Naturally, you start going Woohoo! we’re helping the environment.  I’m all about this!

But then they go on. . .

“It is strongly suggested attendees print off the materials in advance of the event.”  (Lack of bold red print fresh from the email).

Oh.  So not helping the environment, just shifting the printing costs onto the obviously poor new lawyers that just graduated from a college degree that permits students to take no jobs.  Students who paid a couple thousand dollars for a bar exam that didn’t cost that much to administer. As opposed to the bar association and supreme court that arranges and requires the multiple day event involved lots of paperwork.  Organizations who have plenty of money due to us paying for a bar exam that didn’t cost that much to administer.

Now, before our first job arrives, we need to pay for:

  • The Event ($100+)
  • The Hotel ($100+)
  • The Transportation ($100+)
  • Food (min $20+)
  • and Printing (One document for one event ~ there are several each day of four days ~ was 80+pages.)

Sorry,  this “Breaking, Exciting News” press release was an epic fail.  Not seeing the excitement this message acted like it was supposed to incite.
