These Dreamy Photos Answer The Question: ‘What Would I Have Looked Like In Another Decade?’
by Sara Roncero-Menendez via “Huffington Post”

From the scrunchies and jean jackets that dominated the 1980s to the plaid shirts and heavy boots that defined 1990s grunge, everyone has their favorite teenage fashion trend. But what would we have worn if we were flower children of the 1970s or flappers of the 1920s? Ohio State University student Annalisa Hartlaub was able to paint a picture by depicting each decade’s quintessential mainstream and counterculture looks. Using herself as a model and tinting each picture to realistically reflect the technology of the decade, Hartlaub’s “Counter // Culture” photo project catalogs nearly 100 years of fashion history from 1920 through today.

The sixteen-year-old artist created the collection primarily for her photography class, but Hartlaub has always had a love of the alternative. “I’ve always been fascinated, and a bit infatuated, with counterculture and how it shapes society and mainstream culture as well. So I decided to mix that interest with my love of fashion, makeup, and photography to create something,” Hartlaub told The Huffington Post.

Japanese Legends: Story of the Stonecutter

Japanese Legends:

The Stonecutter

bigstock-Stone-Sculptor-21145889

Once upon a time there lived a stonecutter, who went every day to a great rock in the side of a big mountain and cut out slabs for gravestones or for houses. He understood very well the kinds of stones wanted for the different purposes, and as he was a careful workman he had plenty of customers. For a long time he was quite happy and contented, and asked for nothing better than what he had.

Now in the mountain dwelt a spirit which now and then appeared to men, and helped them in many ways to become rich and prosperous. The stonecutter, however, had never seen this spirit, and only shook his head, with an unbelieving air, when anyone spoke of it. But a time was coming when he learned to change his opinion.

One day the stonecutter carried a gravestone to the house of a rich man, and saw there all sorts of beautiful things, of which he had never even dreamed. Suddenly his daily work seemed to grow harder and heavier, and he said to himself: “Oh, if only I were a rich man, and could sleep in a bed with silken curtains and golden tassels, how happy I should be!” Continue reading

How to Get rid of the Pesky Bing “New Tab” Page on Google Chrome

30 Apr

Dell technicians have been playing around on my computer the last few days, and have installed Magic Jellybean Keyfinder in the process. That’s all well and good but it brings with it “Conduit’s search engine” and the terrible “Bing Home Page” for my “New Tab” on Google Chrome.

Conduit SUCKS! Big time. So I deleted Conduit right away.  (By the way, if you are looking to remove the Bing “Search Engine,” Check out the “removing Conduit” page–the steps are the same.)

Figuring out how to get the Bing Home Page from showing up everything I start up Chrome or open up a “New Tab” was more difficult. I tried going through settings.  That didn’t work.  Then I tried Googling it. That suggested I get rid of Conduit, but I already had. It also suggested disabling all extensions until I figured out what was causing it, but it wasn’t any of those.

After about an hour of fiddling around with the stupid program, I got it!  I can’t show pictures because I can’t go backwards now, but here are the steps: Continue reading

Erasing “Conduit”

30 Apr

If you have ever been hit by the Conduit attack, you know what I’m talking about. It sneaks in with random programs, usually without permission or anyone telling you it came with.  Magical Jellybean Keyfinder is one such program.  It’s a search engine/home page that takes over every browser or page you use.  In fact, I keep feeling like it is somehow a virus. Very suspicious. But also Very Hard to Get Rid Of.

Here’s how you erase Conduit:

How to Add Skype to Windows Desktop

29 Apr

I’m posting this mainly because I keep having to erase my computer and re-install Windows (5 times in the past 3 months). Every time that happens, it needs to re-upload all of my programs. This includes Skype; that much beloved face->phone service of travelers around the world.

Unfortunately, I really  don’t like using the “Windows 8 Store” version.  With the stupid Windows 8 page I have to go hunting Skype down, when I would just as soon have it pinned to my taskbar on the bottom.  Plus, my computer doesn’t like telling me when someone calls me via Skype with that program.

So, I still install the version of Skype meant for your Windows Desktop:) Then I pin it to the taskbar on the bottom of my screen.

If you are interested, just go to the following url: http://www.skype.com/en/download-skype/skype-for-windows/
