Quick! Run outside and take a quick peek at the Moon. Tonight, Jupiter is supposed to be extremely close to the moon, and I actually got pictures! Yay! So, they aren’t particularly good pictures, and Jupiter is more like a small blot than a planet, but you get the message. I saw Jupiter! How awesome is that? You actually can see the planet pretty distinctly. Even though it is right next to the moon, it looks like a ginormous star. If you get a pic, post it here. I’d love to see if anyone gets a really good one 🙂
Avoiding Coffee Spills
13 JanHere is my random tip of the day!
I don’t know about anyone else, but I am constantly spilling coffee all over my hand. Trying to carry the open cup from the coffee pot to a table-top usually leaves me with burn marks and rather loud expressions of words better left unspoken. 0_0
But then, a waitress offered me a little tip. Did you know that it is easier to carry an open cup of coffee if you don’t look at it?
Acne Free-The Power of Aloe
12 JanMany years ago, I too was once a teenager. Shocking, right? And boy did I ever suffer from the infamous acne problem confronting so many teens.
I tried various products and they cured some of the more serious issues. But, nothing would keep those pesky black- and whiteheads to quit from showing up.
Then, I read a book. No, not a beauty book. I was actually reading some random love story and it was talking about the beautiful “radiance” of the main character’s skin. Supposedly, she put Aloe Vera on her face every night. Idiot that I was (never attempt things you read from a fiction book), I decided to test it. Here is what I found: It works!!!
Oatmeal Masks!
9 JanDo you suffer from severe dry skin like I do? Or are you just a little dry around the edges? Either way, I have discovered the wonderful things that are oatmeal masks. For years, I have suffered from serious dry skin and embarrassing hives. This winter has been particularly bad on my face. Every time I get out of the shower, my face is stings like crazy. Even heavy moisturizers like Eucerin Cream aren’t working. It just makes my face hurt worse.
Then a friend shared with me her secret. She has the same problem except on a far worse level (she’s allergic to eggs, milk, grass, grains, etc.)–you name it, it causes her to break out in itchy, dry skin and hives. Well she told me the recipe for a face mask that she puts on every night, and I decided to try it out. To my shock, it actually helped quite a bit. And, it is far cheaper than the creams I was using.
How To Add Basic Amazon Associates Links to WordPress.com or Blogger.com
5 Jan
YES, I AM A NERD!!!
I spent all day playing around with Amazon Associates since I have recently been recommending books via my “Many Books, Little Time” link. However, I quickly discovered that it is practically impossible to post the widgets for Amazon Associates via WordPress.com or Blogger.com. I’m assuming it is far easier on WordPress.org, but the free blogs make it inconvenient. Then I discovered that most of the instructions offered online right now don’t seem to follow along with the newer layout of the modern WordPress.com and Blogger.com sites.
So, after great aggravation on my part and victory signs waved about after success, here is how I managed to add the links to my own pages.
Travel Abroad with a Language Scholarship!
3 JanTap, tap, tap. . .
That is the impatient tapping of my foot as I sit here checking my email every 15 minutes (literally–I’m just that sad) to hear back on a scholarship I applied for. They say we’ll hear by email in January, and last year the results came out the first Friday of the month. Ergo, my tap, tap, tapping. Wait, I need to check my email again. . .
Okay, I’m back! Since I am stuck here waiting until at least tomorrow, maybe another week, I thought I’d share the news about this awesome opportunity for students interested in studying abroad.
Law Gone Wild
28 NovGoodbye world, Goodbye television, Goodbye Facebook.
That time has come, that dreaded moment that comes twice every year. Yes, finals have arrived. As each day passes, more and more students seem to drop off the face of the earth. Social media collapses, Gas stations and 24-hour food marts see swells in sales, and stress level shoot through the roof. Life is now simply a move from notes to outlines to Powerpoints to practice tests. This is a particularly dreaded time for law students. There is so little to find humorous when studying the law that our sense of humor is highly twisted by graduation, but hey! we can still be funny! So in the spirit of loosening up before exams begin, I thought I’d share one of my favorite poems for law students. So without further adieu, I present G. K. Chesterton’s “The Horrible History of Jones.” This is why we study law–to keep it from becoming like this. Sadly we seem to have failed in regards to the abbreviations; they are just this bad. I counted 21 in one of my courses!
Jones had a dog; it had a chain;
Not often worn, not causing pain;
But, as the I. K. L. had passed
Their ‘Unleashed Cousins Act’ at last,

Travelling in a 외국의 (foreign) Land
8 NovTravelling–the great journey into the unknown. Dun dun duunnn… They tell you the world is vast, and you sort of understand that when you begin to travel. But nothing quite seems to prepare you for that first step off the runway and into a whole new world. Luckily, at least in the countries I have visited, that new world has seemed just familiar enough (they had normal American toilets and a Dunkin Donuts. . . always a plus) that I wasn’t completely dumped into culture shock.
However, I was recently asked by my supervisor to draw up some tips for fellow students visiting countries where the language is a barrier. I got to thinking about it, and I decided to focus on what I learned on my most recent visit to Korea. By miracle alone, I had the luck to be roomed with a local girl for the first two weeks, or I have no idea what I would have done. Travelling in a new country without the benefit of language proficiency is difficult, but there are a few things that can make your life so much easier.
